| SWANS CRUSH DEMONS - Semi Final - 2nd September 2006 |
Saturdays first semi final saw the mighty South Dublin Swans breeze past the Dublin Demons and book a place in next weeks ARFLI Grand Final.
The swans started the first quarter with some great play. Captain Steve 'Tugger' Waugh won the toss and went with the monster breeze coming down the field. He then proceeded to take three tough contested marks and convert each for a major score instantly giving the demons a lead to chase. From that point on the Swans were away.
After the first break the Swans continued their good form. Now kicking against the breeze good smart play saw the swans move the ball to the pockets and kick small and accurately up the wing before moving back in towards goal. The Demons managed to get a couple back but the Swans with great intensity still won the quarter and increased there lead even further.
Once again with the wind in the third the Swans stormed away. Great defensive play from Fast Eddy, Simo, Sean and Martin kept the Demons score down and provided plenty of supply into the forward line.
During the forth the fatigue was beginning to show on both sides. The wind had died down but the goals hadn't. The demons found some spring in their step and kicked a couple more but it was to little to late. The Swans moving into the final with a comfortable win 19.10.124 to 8.9.57.
Highlights of the day included the Brainchild sweeping through the middle again, always great to watch. Brent taking some huge marks. Nigel playing his 2nd game in a row with a broken finger (one word….tough!). Wes, Sean and Helzi ripping it up as always. Jimmy copping a nice nail cutting slap to the face only for the Brainchild to scream at him from the side line 'turn around' as the ball came close (fair play, he did, even with one of his contacts out the back of his eye, His alright now mother jimmy). Good tough play from Kerry man John Ahern in the Ruck and of course a lovely right footer placed through the posts by the Pres (cheers for handball fitzy).
All in all it was probably the best game the boys had played as a team all year. Just one more to go.
