| Swans Win Top Of The Table Clash - Round 3 20/05/06 |
In a hard fought battle on Saturday the South Dublin Swans faced off against their old cross-town rivals the Dublin Demons. Missing a couple of key players to the Rugby and some bad Japanese food the boys new they were in for a hard game.
Kicking with a slight breeze in the first quarter the boys jumped away to an early start putting four majors on the board to the demons one. The forward line functioned well with a two pronged John attack. The midfield made sure there was plenty of good supply coming in.
The second quarter saw more of the same with the swans using the ball well into the breeze. Every player contributed well and by half time the team was looking hard to beat going into the break five goals up. The midfield engine room Craig "The Brainchild" Wood continued his outstanding form.
With things going the Swans way the third quarter saw a minor incident involving Dom "The Physio" Hoban, the Demons Coach, and an alleged clipboard. Closer inspection of trial by video will be needed.
The fourth quarter saw the lads play well as they finished the game into a strong wind. Leading the way Tipperary legend Martin "The Beard" Ryan took a great run as he collected the ball in the back pocket, balked an opposition player took a bounce and screamed down the wing. El Presidente Michael Oakes continued his solid work in defence with some strong clearances. The highlight of the fourth quarter was a courageous Adam McManus backing into the path of the Demons 6ft 5 full forward with no regard for his own safety and thinking only of his team's fortunes. Fitzy sealed a best on ground performance with a late 40m drop punt straight through the middle.
All in all a great all round team performance by the Swans and a great win against last years premiers. |
