Cork Too Quick For Swans (08/06/07)
On June 8th 2007 the South Dublin Swans made the long trip down south to take on the Cork Leeside Lions. Always a tough ask to beat the lions at home the swans arrived with a contingent of 14, a few less than planned but enough to put in a decent challenge.

With the sun beating down the boys headed into the first quarter with confidence. Straight after the first bounce both teams took time to settle the nerves and find their feet. Some good play through the middle and some fine taps from new ruckmen Luke ‘hennesy’ Ohea provided some quick clearances into the swans forward line but inaccurate kicking and too many high balls cost the swans and after the first break their was little separating the sides.

The second quarter saw much of the same with both teams struggling to get good possession. New Irish recruit Tim adapted quickly to the forward line and took some great leading marks out of the forward pocket. Tugger and Matty also worked well together in the forward line and after a couple of late majors the Swans went into the half time break up by ten points.

During the third quarter the Lions came out firing and with plenty of run. With a couple of borderline decisions going against the swans their heads dropped and they let the lions back in. Without a major score by the end of the third quarter the swannies had left themselves with some work to do.

The forth quarter was well played from both teams. A late charge was led by Rossy and Luke who worked well in the ruck and across half back to send long ball after long ball into the swans forward line. With two quick scores it looked like the swans may have staged a late comeback but two more goals late for the Lions put it out of reach final scores coming to Lions 6.5.41 to Swans 5.4.34

Highlights: Bryce “Richo” Fraser had an intimate meeting with the ground and had to be assisted off. He was ok though coming back on in the fourth to get hammered again and cop one in the shoulder. The presidents only set shot all day went out on the full..muppet (Not even a bad angle). Rossy made a great step ladder for an opposition players specky (he didn’t touch the ball though, should have been a free).
