SWANS FLY HIGH IN SEASON OPENER (12/05/07)
On Saturday the 12th of May the ARFLI premiership season finally got underway with the Swans first game of the season against the Mullingar Tigers at home.

Still missing a few key players to the squad the Swans travelled west with a strong team of fifteen only to find an undermanned tigers waiting for them, the saints however who were playing second came to the rescue and provided couple of replacements and things were underway.

The Swans having had a poor pre season cup were determined to come out firing. From the first bounce it was evident they were there to play. Straight away the midfield combined well with new ruckmen Rossy “slats” Slater and the ball was being fired into the forward line. Goals (and plenty of points) started raining down everywhere. In slippery conditions the swans did well keep the scoring ticking over and the ball out of their back line finishing the quarter six goals up

The second quarter saw more of the same from the swans with the bench rotating around and plenty of fresh legs hitting the ground. Another new face to the club Luke had a crack in the ruck playing his first game of footy and doing extremely well. A little misfortune hit the swans when on-baller Adam took a spill on the wing and rolled his ankle but hopefully is back in a few weeks.

During the third quarter the heavens opened up and it rained hard. Both teams found even the simplest of handballs hard to control but confidence was high and many a mark was taken over head arms stretched out. Mullingar eventually found their feet and got a couple of majors on the board but it was too little too late.

The fouth quarter was just a formality and the swans used it as a chance to move around the play. Martin and Brent got a chance to come forward and show what they can do. New Irishman Pete played his fist game for the Swans and took to it like a pig in shi* even managing a goal in the third. Rossy and Luke performed perfectly in the ruck and as a team the boys did well taking the match out 18.9.117 to 3.3.21.
